You would need to be able to pick up a Duraspark dist. really cheap to beat the cost of the Pertronix kit. It is a very good idea to upgrade your coil with the MSD. It makes the coil work harder, which can overheat a stock and even some aftermarket performance coils. I bought a Blaster coil when I got the MSD, made sense to buy all the ignition from the same manufacturer.
I picked up the Pertronix kit and 40,000 volt coil for $90, took maybe an hour to drop it in ... if you can get cheaper and easier than that go for it.
or if any of yall have any newer trucks with tfi you could buy my accel tfi distributor for a 302 for just 60 dollars. it has 10,000 rpm bearings and it looks good.not to mention it works.
