No, it is easy. I like the msd. You can run it with points and then change to a Duraspark distributer.

Do you mean an electronic dist. to eliminate points or a capacitive discharge box for higher power? They sre easy to install if you can do a basic tune-up. I agree with Mike W. on the MSD 6 series boxes, they work great! I have a Pertronix Ignitor in the stock dist. in my '66 that I'm happy with.
I had a Mallory Unilite, but it required a special rotor that was a pain to get, the Pertronix uses the stock rotor. Besides the Unilite quit working!! In the winter at about 0* on my lunch hour!

I dropped a Pertronix in my original distributor and added the 40,000 volt coil... took maybe an hour, including pulling the distributor and cleaning/buffing it up... piece of cake. I also upgraded the cap to the new larger flat cap (NAPA et al makes an adapter) and 8mm wires... Autolite titanium plugs gapped out to .50 ... BIG improvement!

I also put in a Pertronix in my '72 - No more points !! I didn't know there was an adapter for the large flat cap... I may be off to NAPA

I've been considering the Pertronix for my '67, with a fresh 390. What kind of real world dividends can I expect from this unit, along with a hotter coil and bigger wires?

The crane conversion is nice as well.

You can do the crane conversion and recurve for about $100.00 and have a rev limiter built in as well.

Benifits are reliability and never having to set or clean points again.

I haven't had that much experience with them, just dropped the kit in this past week... but the increased spark has simply got to make it a more efficient fuel burner, and the "no hassle" of no points is well worth it. There's quite a few threads on here, search the Forums... I spent quite a bit of time researching what the FTE experts had to say before I bought mine... needless to say they convinced me. I'll say this much... my 352 fired after about 1/3 of a turn, and the short road test I gave it afterwards it sure seemed a little more spunky.

FYI... the best deals are on eBay, by far. I got the 40,00 volt FlameThrower coil and the Ignitor kit for $90, with free shipping.

I put the pertronix "ignitor" and an accel super stock coil with autolite platinums gapped at .050, and she fires right up, every time, idles soooo much smoother, and I get about 2 MPG better(a 20% improvement!!)

Question ? about Electronic Ignition

What is the best MSD 6 series to use on my 302 and where is the best place to get one at? Do I hook it up to my duraspark dizzy? Should I use a hotter coil?

Thanks,
Jeremy

IMO the MSD 6AL is the way to go. Multiple spark and a rev limiter for the future! There is also an adjustable timing control that can be added, it allows up to 15* retard for the occasional bad tank or advance more for premium fuel!

If you car currently has points, probably the cheapest/easiest way to modernize it is to pick up a reman'd duraspark distributor, drop it in, and wire it directly to a MSD ignition box. An plug in adapter is available also. I have done this to two vehicles and plan to do it to my p/u soon enough!
