Hello everyone. First post here. I just went thru this with my new truck - 2017 F350 Lariat CC LB. Have 1500 miles on it and took a rock near the bottom edge sometime in the past week or two. Was driving along enjoying the scenery, no other vehicles around and heard that sickening crack. The crack was at the bottom edge in the middle and as I was driving I watched it keep growing. I thought it may have been a stress fracture but when Safelite came out to replace the windshield we inspected it and found the impact area. I insisted on OEM glass and they said no problem. The tech said they installed a lot of them - that the same windshield was used in several of the SD models. Price installed was $354 (New Jersey). It would have been more if they had to calibrate the sensors but since I didn't have lane departure it wasn't needed.

Thanks for the information. Exact situation for mine, only with about 350 miles on the clock. Mine is now a t-shaped crack, originating from the center bottom of the windshield, up about 8-10 then outwards each direction almost the width of the glass. The price you paid isn't horrible. I'm going to wait until after the winter to get it replaced though.
I had thought about waiting but was concerned of possible moisture leaks. If it had been higher up I probably would have waited. The crack didn't go thru all layers...just the outer one as far as I could tell. Figured 'pay now or pay later...'
I'm curious about the bug and rock deflectors you can get for the front of the hood - if they may help in deflecting some stones from the bottom edge of the windows. Would be nice for someone to make a deflector that mounted in front of the wipers to keep rocks from hitting the lower parts of the windshield. It seems the breaks that happen at the edges spread the fastest.
I have a $100 deductible on my glass breakage. My glass installer usually does me a deal for $50 or sometimes all $100. So I always wondered how much profit he had in windshield replacements that he can eat my deductible.
So it's interesting to see what windshield cost with out insurance.
It's a once a year deal for me, So I usually wait for spring before replacing any glass.

My truck has the lane departure sensor. I’ve called serval places and some places say I need to calibrate and some say I don’t. I’m not sure who to believe 😒
Is it the real SoundScreen or is it an aftermarket version? I mean, I'm sure its better than just a single-layer glass windshield. Most insurance companies will cover OEM if you force the issue. I always do...feels good making them pay more.
ALL windshield glass for on-highway motor vehicles is REQUIRED to be laminated safety glass. That’s a FHWA requirement. That’s why when you see a wrecked vehicle with windshield damage, the glass breaks, but stays together for the most part.
safelight wants 645 for no insurance windshield replacement. my insurance says it would fall under comp coverage as I don't have a separate glass rider.....
