so I walk into autozone and ask for the brightest bulbs I could get. some 65W halogen at 65 bucks a pair. put them in, looked brighter, but not turning night into day bright.
so my question, is the next step an HID setup and I nottice they sell 6000HID, 8000HID. is there major circutry changes to convert stock to HID?
is there some else out there beyond HID that I should look at?
Dunno, I’m sure there is a thread about this if you search or maybe in the tech folders. I did recently find this site looks interesting but pricey. Not sure if anyone has experience with them though. https://www.hidprojectors.com/collections/f250
Those expensive AutoZone bulbs are the same wattage as the cheapy Sylvania bulbs. You are just paying for the blue tint on the bulbs. If you read the backing card you’ll see the wattage is no different.
You'd want 6000K. The 8000K will look blue.
There is 2 things you need to be aware of.
1. For best results you need a projector housing. If you don't , there is more chance of blinding oncoming traffic. Can be somewhat prevented by adjusting lights down more.
2. You NEED to use a relay to draw power directly from your battery. The cheaper kits come without a relay and the initial burst/draw they have when you switch the lights on can mess up other electronics in the car. I've had my transmission go into limp mode on a car with this. Installed the relay and all was normal again.
Other than that, when installed correctly they do turn night into day. Some of the cheaper ones will conk out after a year. Replace or just buy a better kit.
