are these the actual Osram SilverStar lights or are they the Sylvania SliverStars? Do you see a blue coating on the bulb?

For others wondering why I am asking... take a read at the following site for some good information on "white" light headlamps.

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...good/good.html

Of course this is one person's opinion so it should be take as such... however other information I have found over the past few years also seems to agree with it.

Just my own 0.02.

K2JJB, that's a very good article. Sounds very credible to me. I have made some mistakes buying headlights/bulbs and what I have learned from it is that the optics of the lens and reflectors is the most important consideration since the legal bulbs all have the same wattage. This blue coating thing certainly make sense though. My experience, all the cheapo lights have crappy optics. So they may be pretty good on low beam but on high beam they put light all over the countryside but don't focus it down the road where you need it most.

I am sure that there was a difference in the light from one to the other. Considering how the poorly the lights on my 1997 Mountaineer compare to the ones on my 2002 Mazda I wish I could make them work a little better.

In any case, as you said this is your opinion and I was not trying to say that it was wrong. I was just adding a little more information to the topic. If it works for your eyes that is what counts! Just like audio equipment, every one has a different preference for how it should sound

Before I installed Silverstars in May of '04, I took my Explorer to a back road with a small bridge, turned on the high beams, and backed up until I couldn't see the bridge. After marking my position, I went home and swapped bulbs. When I returned that same night to the same position, the Silverstars lit up the bridge and a little beyond.....proof, at least to me, that they're worth the money.
