Back in 2012, Apple ceased to use Google Maps on iOS devices because Google wanted more concessions than Apple was willing to give. Thus, Apple Maps was born. At rollout, it was a pretty poor product that was vastly inferior to Google Maps. At this point, however, Apple Maps is doing very well and widely considered by industry experts to be the equal of Google Maps.
Frankly, I don't know why people get so excited about using CarPlay or AA. I've used CarPlay, and when your phone is attached it quickly takes over the system. The audio player is inferior to Sync, and I don't find the Nav to be much better.
My biggest beef with Android Auto is it makes it difficult to play the music and podcasts I have stored on a USB stick. Android Auto really expects you to play tracks from your phone, and going back and forth between AA and the USB stick is more screwing with the touchscreen than I want to be doing when on the road. I think where AA shines is in the voice messaging capabilities. We usually just go with SYNC.
In 21 years of driving I've never used my high beams on any vehicle at anytime. Never felt like I needed to. Compared to my 99 Super Duty these quad beams are great, see no reason to waste money on LED.
Perhaps it's you guy's eyes that are the problem? Maybe?
Mileage is a lot worse than my old truck I traded in. Both carrying the same camper and going to the same places. That said, I may be driving a little faster on the highway than I was with the other one.
There's some weird things that go on, like my cooled seats coming on at 50* ambient during a winter afternoon. The things you can and can't do on the info center are pretty dumb, like you can mess around with all the settings while you're driving, but don't you touch the camera button, or respond to a text. (Why can we not respond to a text with voice command - or did I just miss that?)
The dealer did me a real solid, and fixed the gas tank with almost no interaction from me - then they've left me hanging for months on a switch for the passenger rear window which is broken. Don't get it.
No, by far my worst complaint is the way the throttle and transmission work.
Specifically, when you get to highway speeds (55+) the truck takes a lot of throttle, well over 1/3 of the pedal, before anything starts happening. It never really builds boost, so then you give it a little more gas, and the truck downgears and takes off like a rocket.
I'd love to know if they've updated the software - my truck was built way back in December of '16.
It's just maddening. I'll likely take a long look at the chevy when it comes out this fall. Sorry I know people won't like that, but it is what it is.
IIRC, the "purely Apple BS" comment was in response to somebody who was trying to blame SYNC because they could not use Google Maps within Apple CarPlay. I doubt Apple will ever do anything to integrate with Google, but for sure none of it has to do with SYNC or Ford's navigation system. Talk about a lot of cooks in the kitchen!

For the issue with the throttle, if you get a pedal commander it helps a TON. i put one on my truck and fine tuned it and i have no complaints about it anymore.
the only issue that i have as well as others have stated is definitly the LED light option not being standard. I was without fog lights for at least a month while i was waiting on brackets for dual rigid fog lights and the light out put was HORRIBLE. my buddy actually asked if i had put my lights on at all. I have the lariat ultimate package, i bought the truck used at 9k and still spent 64k and cant believe that the led option wasnt standard.
Google and Waze and one in the same........Both products of Alphabet.
Not sure what you mean about " purely Apple BS".
The last time I checked, the factory navigation does not work within AA, Waze, or Apple CarPlay so does your "Apple BS" reply applies to the stock Ford navigation.
Just wondering.
Have a great day.
Not sure what you don't understand, people not being able to choose Google maps or Waze in Car Play is purely on Apple. No one else. Follow now?
