I have a late 2004 F250 6.0 with EGR delete. The other night I took my truck to my parents to swap wheels and tires.
When I left the truck started fine, but as I was headed down their driveway it shut off like the key had been switched off. Went to start and all it does is turn over.
Checked and have FICM sync also 47 volts. IPR duty cycle goes from 14% to 84% while cranking. Checked ICP voltage at 0.3v. Also put a gauge in place of ICP sensor and only got about 80 psi when cranking.
Had a crank position sensor code. Cleared it and it doesn't come back even if unplugged?? Thinking maybe IPR might have sucked up a piece of trash, going to pull that today. Dunno need a little advice. Thanks
It's calling for full on oil @ 84% and only getting 80 lbs
Sounds like the possibility of a HPO leak to me
You have the good old early build pump that's known to fail with no warning. Not a guarantee it's the HPOP but the odds are in your favor
If the ICP is on the valve cover it might be a dummy plug
At any rate it's looking for around 500 lbs before ignition happens
All 04's actually did have the early "style" pump. Ford did update the capacity of the HPOP after Sept 2003 to match the larger volume wavy oil rails (that have the ICP on the passenger valve cover), but it is essentially the same style pump (swash plate). The new cast iron V4 piston style pump (that has proven to be pretty reliable) was only in 05's and up.
If the IPR looks clean, do an air test to try to pinpoint the problem. If you know that it has the original dummy plugs, I would pull the valve covers and change them, and the standpipes, and then do an air test with the valve covers off.
Sure sounds like it --- IPR trash or that notorious FORD TRASH pump (they'll just blame Navistar), but Ford "engineers" botched it up -- very common --- normally takes them 2-4 years before they get ANY engine right.
This is why I just bought a Cummins truck - B10 Life Rating on the engine is 250K minimum..............

Another useless post. You sure showed us didn't you. Lol
my 04 has old style round pump with the ball bearing in the side of pump J tube on top and updated rails with stand pipes and dummy plugs here is a link to my adventures
