Stereo Install Kits?
Metra Lists three different plastic adapters to install a single DIN aftermarket stereo in the Excursion.

Anyone have any experience with either of them?

Metra Part # 99-5027 | Ford Dash kit | Lincoln Dash kit | Metra Online
  • Allows the radio to be screwed in from the sides rather than using the flimsy metal sleeve
  • Screws to dash using climate control screws

Metra Part # 99-5802 | Ford Dash kit | Lincoln Dash kit | Metra Online
  • Requires metal DIN sleeve from aftermarket radio
  • Snaps into dash bezel

Metra Part # 99-5804 | Ford Dash kit | Lincoln Dash kit | Metra Online
  • Requires metal DIN sleeve from aftermarket radio
  • Screws to dash using climate control screws

I'm thinking the first one will be the most secure since it uses screws to hold everything together.

I'm also looking to upgrade a stock 2000 head unit to something more modern. Did you make a move or does anyone have suggestions?

I think they are looking for single DIN solutions. Like me, you did a double DIN installation.

Honestly, I'd go with a more modern Double DIN head over a Single DIN. If you go Single DIN you are only adding another cubby storage slot to your dash. To do a Double DIN you only need to trim the recessed upper and lower lip. The sides remain intact and if you ever want, the Factory radio will still lock in place just like it used to.

Going back and looking at your post, I see we both have the same HU but with Different names Yours is Joying and mine is Eincar.

Pumpkin, Joying, Eincar....different names, same products. Each of them carries a variant of the Android OS, just like on the cell phones
