Double Din Head Unit Question....

I am wanting to change out the factory radio to something I can use as a back-up camera screen. Reading up on this, it seems once you install the new unit, it requires that you remove the dash to uninstall??!! Is this correct? From what I read, the Metra kit gives the warning that the dash will need to be removed to remove the radio. The Best Kits brand is a little unclear on this, but I don't see why it would be any different. I am not going to install an aftermarket double din head unit if it mean removing the dash to replace it. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks in Advance.

The dash cover needs to come off. It make the removal cumbersome with the head unit still attached and what not, but don't let it be a deal breaker.

Is the dash cover easily removed? Sounds like work

It's the plastic front of the dash. It's held in with push clips around the perimeter and two screws above the radio that you remove once the radio is out.

Hint. If you choose to go the Double Din route...DON'T reinstall those two screws!!!!

the front dash "bezel" is super easy to remove, you just pull it out towards you, no screws or anything. Hardest part is the wiring for the double din. Just make sure you get the right dash mount kit. Double din touch screen totally worth it.

The metra d.d. requires 6 screws to be set thru the plastic "wings" and into your radio. That's why you must remove the dash to install/uninstall the d.d. radio

Once you find out how easy that dash is to remove you'll pull it out just for fun.

The Best Kits brand kit doesn't have the "wings", so maybe a removal of the new unit would be more routine?

The wings get bolted to the radio. Now, if you make notched where the phillips heads hit the opening, thenvyeah, wont need to remove dash..butvthen, its then a no brainer to steal either...the radio then slides into opening then a thin bar goes horizontally between the curved handles to "lock" it in....thats how my metra kit was
