Thank you for the tips. Finally made it home. Good time even with the last 60 miles being black ice. Drove about 40 mph the last leg. Had 4 or 5 moments that made me crap my pants. At one point and time the truck was going one way and the trailer was going the other way. Some how recovered and made it home safely. Down 1 pair of underwear though, those are going straight into the trash.

Hey your tuner has oil temp. Did you have to put an additional temp sensor on the motor for that to work? Or is oil temperature something that our trucks "secretly" monitor from the factory? Lol

Apparently it secretly does. I don’t have any auxiliary sensors.

So part two of this story is about to start. Headed to Florida on Saturday for some hurricane relief work. Took the driveshaft to the shop to have them take a look. They said at low speed a it had a wicked shimmy. So I told them to go ahead with all new u joints and balance. There it back in tonight. It is better but still a wicked vibration at 75 mph. And still has the rumble at 10 mph. I can not narrow it down to if it’s from the front or back. I was gonna take a look at the front wheel bearings since I have recently lost esof which used to work fine.

When checking the rear bearings can you do this with the tires still on?

If you're talking wheel bearings it would be like any full floating axle.Pull the axle shaft and to properly inspect both bearings you will have to pull the hubs which would be A LOT easier without the weight of the wheel and tire.

Unless a wheel is extremely loose, (which I doubt) then I would think that any bad vibration must be from the driveshaft. A bad wheel bearing will rumble and make noise that you don't like, but unless something is very wrong it should not cause the vibration.

Usually with a wheel bearing it is pretty clear which corner it is coming from. You can tell which side by turning corners at the right speed, the more weight on the bearing the louder, the less weight the quieter.

I have a high speed vibration

checked all the rods and links and they were tight

I accedentially found out that my whatchamacall it bar (not the drag baar, the one in front of it) has a loose lolipop. if I push the bar up and try to find play...none...BUT...if I pull the bar down..then check play..bingo...play in pax side tie bar. put a bungie cord around it to keep it up in the no play position.

replacing is a witch hunt. theres no clear naming convention and cross reference to non ford replacements.....theres inner and outer (but from what perspective) and is there a stud or not (duh, guess will know when I pull it out). no one sells the complete bar with everything that I can just assemble , measure, and drop in place.

I know as soon as I try to take this apart, something will break, and no one will know what I am taking about.

so check your links and check them for poping out of position .

bungy cord is holding for now.

Haha, I love it! Nothing like a little duct tape, bailing wire,.........oh,.and and bungee cord ingenuity for a temporary fix.

I just pulled it into the bay at work. Gonna let her thaw for a few. Then start checking stuff. Gonna do outer front axle seals, inspect the bearings, then change the front axle fluid. Then transfercase fluid. When I rotated the drive shaft in neutral yesterday while installing it there was a slight clicking coming from the transfercase/transmission area. In neutral I wouldn’t think it would make any noise. See if I can look into that also.

Well just got home last night from the 3,600 mile round trip from Northen Indiana to Miami and back. Happy to say besides the rear axle noise the truck ran flawlessly. Didn’t have one problem. Stopped at my buddy’s house in Atlanta on the way back and changed the oil and fuel filter as they were both due. Also achieved my highest mileage yet. Finished off with 16.4 mpg. I was pretty excited about that.
