Were you towing? If not, seems like you had been heavy on the pedal or running over hills constantly. I can get nearly 19mpg on my way to Dallas from Houston with a fresh tank and a trip reset.
Oh wait...were we going by the lie-o-meter or hand calcs?
That was cruise control set 5-7 mph over majority of the time. I mean we run through a little mountains. 14.7 was hand calculated the first tank. Like I said I think the second tank will be better.
Ya. Hoping didn’t work. 14.7 mpg hand calculated on the second tank as well.
I am trying to figure out a driveline issue currently. My mid shaft bearing is bad I think.( Has movement up and down) So I have one on order, hope I got the right one. U joints look fine from the outside, I understand that doesn’t mean anything but I don’t have the tool supplies and work area to change them out, so I am hoping the mid shaft bearing is the main cause of the vibration I am getting. And I can take the driveshaft to my local shop back at home to take care of all that.
High pitched whine when on the throttle and a sound like running over rumble stripes on the highway just before a stop or low speed.
It has only been doing the whine recently and the rumble is just in the past few days.
What is it with trips and issues?? Why can’t it just be smooth. I want a truck to just get in and drive. But do realize I can’t afford that so it it what it is. I hope I am on the right track.
Even with a meth injection, best I get is 19 and that’s not really good because the methonal mix will add up quickly to the cost of fuel so no free lunch there.
That's the demon in these engines... do every mechanical maintenance item and upgrade to make them reliable as possible, (which isn't very), and find out at the end of it all that they are not exactly mileage wonders either.
I call them one of the less impressive moments in engineering history.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on them, I drive one now and have had several.
Correct I am tuned. Running a performance tune currently. I am looking into a economy tune currently. Like the pep, but would like move better. Not sure if it would be any better but worth a shot.
I get 17 to 19 on the highway all the time empty, on a no power setting on my mini max, jump it up to the 300 HP tune and it get's slightly better but you can't hardly drive the truck without jerking your neck off. On the high tune the throttle response is so sensitive with Michigan roads at low speeds every bump causes your foot to move ever so slightly and so does the truck.

That’s more in the area of what the previous owner said it would do. I was skeptical. Wish it was 17. I don’t drive like a grandpa but I did have the cruise on the entire trip down.

I do have another slight advantage as mine is only 2 WD.
I've read more than once that these trucks, mine included, seem to get better mileage on the higher than stock horsepower Tunes than on the stock Tunes. Doesn't make much sense to me, but I'm definitely not complaining.
Well I took my driveshaft off and took it to a driveline shop I have used before where we are vacationing. Guy went through the driveshaft and said everything was good except the center support bearing. So I had that replaced. Came home and reinstalled. The shop seems to know there stuff pretty good but I have the bad feeling they didn’t install the rear shaft in the same place. I marked the driveshaft and chocked the wheels on the truck. So it should have went back in the exact same spot. I had to rotate the rear piñon a half a turn. Gonna take it for a test drive. I guess we will see what the results are. Hopefully all is well.

as long as all the U-joints are perfectly in line with each other on the drive shaft you should be fine
