Fuel Cooler Testing And Data....

For those that are interested in fuel cooler data for our 7.3 PSD's.
HERE is a link to a site that will be posting test data on the installation and use of a fuel cooler. Data will be charted and mutiple sensors and items will be monitored, recorded and posted throughout the summer.

Do you s'pose the way they have that cooler mounted might adversly effect the air flow through it?

I guess this is like a grudge match between Dennis and Bob Reiley, isn't it?

If they'll give me the gauges and probes, I'll be happily vounteer to let my fuel cooler participate in the study!

The cooler will be moved to different locations throughout the testing. Unaware of any grudge match.
The question of fuel cooling and it's importance to performance and function has been raised quite often over the past year or so.
Data will tell all.
Of course, IMHO, if it doesn't increase horespower or extrend the life of other components, etc. I'm not interested.

Bob's site claims his research shows you need a fuel cooler with a regulated return and he sells one with his regulated return kit. Says that hot fuel from the engine will prematurely kill you fuel pump.

Dennis says he has seen no proof that you need one (he doesn't sell one).

Longstanding argument between Dennis and some other posters (LarryM is who he mentions) over at TDS.

I'm happy to hear that the cooler will be moved around.

My offer to help out with the research is still good.

I wondered if Dennis was ever going to continue with his testing. Glad to see that he's not forgotten about it. Look forward to some results.

Haven't seen any actual data or research from Bob.
I wonder how many injectors get replaced because of hot fuel?
Stock injectors will go what? 200K+ miles?
So injectors that receive fuel that is perhaps 20 degrees cooler go another 20K + miles?
What horsepower gain is there? Needs dyno'd.
I guess you'll have to contact Dennis if you want to offer your PSD as a test mule.

clux, i've met dennis and talk with him a few times about fuel stuff. the cooler conversation came up once and i think he said he just wasn't convinced that a cooler would make any difference in the actual temps of the fuel that reach the injectors. it make sense that if higher fuel temperatures can decrease lubricity and damage injectors, that you would be most concerned with the temp of the fuel in the fuel rail. i don't think the pump is his worry.

heatstroked, i think the same goes for making any difference in mileage or power wouldn't the fuel being injected into the engine need to be cooler for there to be a difference?

he never mentioned anyone but customers asking about fuel temps as the reason for the testing he did. i'll have to follow the posting on his site to see how this testing goes, could be interesting.

whose larrym? does he post here or do i have to go read at tds for that?

I think if you read Bob Reiley's site you will see fuel pump life as at least part of his reasoning for adding a cooler (he's the guy that is actually marketing the concept). I agree that it probably isn't going to change the temp at the injectors, the injectors are operating in a heat soaked environment anyway.

BTW guys, I was joking about the grudge match thing.
