Okay I found a good straight box for my 65. I have it off and flipped over and have sanded off the minor surface rust. I am not planning to blast it. I am thinking of using Rust Mort or POR 15. I have also read about using Carwell or Krown.
I am in the Pacific Northwest so it will get wet.
Has anyone used these...thoughts ?
The Rust Mort (phosphoric acid) and POR 15 work well together. The POR 15 dries about as hard as Chinese arithmetic an will stick like glue to anything except slick shiney metal. You do need to remove all the seam sealer inside and out and get the rust out of the seams or it will crawl out eventually.
I haven't used it but was thinking about something like Waxoyl to coat the bottom of the bed and cab. Anyone have any experience with it?
No first hand experience but I've heard stories and have seen pictures of issues with POR15 when used on drivers in areas that use salt on the roads. I know lots of people love POR15 but it seems most that I've heard praise it either don't have long term results, or their vehicle never sees the roads of the NE in the winter.
