Question POR-15 vs. Rust Bullet

Has anyone used these products and do they work? Which one is better? I plan on top coating anything treated with these products. I live in Minnesota so rust protection is of great concern since the moisture level is high even in the winter. You don't need road salt to make things rust here.

I cant speak from experience, but reading both products descreptions and msds sheets, por 15 is great until it gets scratched through. this will allow rust to get underneath the surrounding por 15 and you will then get rust. Rust bullet etches into the metal, you will get the same rust at the point of the scratch, but it will not spread underneath the rust bullet. good luck. Dan

fordman; just put Rust Bullet on my 58 F100 frame. Not sure about the durability yet, because it's not road worthy yet. Goes on good and looks like it adheres good too. Don't know much about Por-15

I have used Por15 and was impressed with the good results its only been a year tho. It spreads out really smooth with just a cheap paint brush. The only down side is that the prep work has to be spot on to get a good adhesion.
Only down side is after metal prep, mertal ready, sand blasting/wire wheel, and Por15 then a top coat to finish it off it gets quite expensize.

thanks
NIck

It's all in the prep. Either one will work. If water is allowed to reach the metal from another source you can still get rust. And can actually eatt all of the metal leaving the coating. Por15 kit uses an etcher/cleaner to help the bonding. Rust bullet put the etcher in the primers base. It's more important to remove the loose stuff, to allow good adhesion. An epoxy primer will protect the metal just as well, once an area is prepped properly. Some like etching primers others don't. I prefer the etching to be a seperate step, that way I can concentrate on the problem areas. These are considered as high build coatings. Which give you more protection against chips.

For long term protection add a couple pf anodes to the frame. Or impressed current system.
