I'm looking for a new battery for my beast, the OEM one is getting slow to crank. I'm looking at a Group 65 Duracell at Sam's Club with 850 CCA, has anyone had any experience with them or another brand that would be worth considering.
Odyssey batteries are excellent batteries but you pay for what you get. The Diehard series I believe are actually rebranded Odyssey batteries and some guys swear by them.
with the Level of "Re-branding" in today's world.... its just a guess what is behind the label....
Warranty, keeping paperwork/receipts with vehicle, locations of dealerships/stores
my factory Motorcraft went from 8/11 to 11/17 and 150,000 miles..
but the factory battery may not be available at local Ford dealers.
I got an Advanced Auto Parts battery.. $40.00 off coupon and 1/2 mile from my home.
( order on-line, pick up in store in 30 minutes ) plus I have an account with them
Plenty of battery choices out there. Just checked online at my local Sams Club for the heck of it: Duracell AGM Automotive Battery - Group Size 65 on sale for $144.52:
20 amp hour rate:75
Battery electrolyte composition: Glass Mat
BCI group size: 65
CA at 32 degrees F: 860
CCA at 0 degrees F: 750
Reserve capacity: 150

I agree with Gluten Free, err.... I mean Giant Futon. The Odyssey AGM is great. Sears no longer has them but you can still get them branded as Odyssey. I got my latest set from Amazon. As mentioned above, they are spendy but good!
Out of the two I like the 1045 CA and the 850 CCA of the flooded cell for the price.
That's the way I'm leaning right now, I don't think any battery will last a long time in my truck because of all the stuff that runs before it's even started, the power seat moving when you insert the key has to be a big drain but I like it
In that case I recommend a Napa or Motorcraft battery, and change it every 3 years. Any battery is a gamble after 3 years, and new regular batteries are pretty reliable. IIRC, Napa offers a Ford battery that still has popable caps for checking fluid level. Something of critical importance to me, when I can get it. I hate Napa parts, but their batteries are good.
I won't use Optima or Odyssey batteries, because of the 3 year rule. I've had them last 15+ years plenty of times, but they're a gamble after 3, just like a cheapo lead acid battery. And they die without warning, where normal lead acid batteries tend to get weak and warn you a bit. So there's no real pay off for me. I don't get my moneys worth from the better batteries, unless I'm willing to gamble a bit. My life safety batteries are 24 months only.

I agree with both of these gentlemen. I installed Odysseys in my last truck and was extremely pleased.

The Odyssey AGMs I had came with a 48 month free replacement.
I don't know who makes NAPA batteries but I've had less than good experiences with them in the past under heavy use in my work trucks so they aren't on my list. It may be someone else is even making them.
I have had Optima AGM batteries in my trailer from new, the first set lasting 13.5 years but I'm not sold on them in constant heavy starting load applications.
The 2000 F250 I bought new, the original Ford battery went 10 years. Then I got a high mpg commuter car and drove the F250 somewhat infrequently and the battery died. Not sure how the lack of daily driving affected the battery, but 10 years was the longest I've ever had a battery.
One of the towing threads just had a link to "RV items of the year" or something similar and a section on batteries is included.
I can't complain about the Ford batteries. I tend to go to the dealer more often than anywhere for work on our vehicles. Got a good relation with the service staff (first name basis) and you can't do much on the newer vehicles compared to past.

Same Napa experience for me. Back in my 7.3 days batteries were always important for cold morning starts in central Oregon. My friends and I were always impressed with gold duralast from auto zone.
My 2017 has leaking from the inspection cap, there are others on this site with same issue. Some have already began to corrode the metal in the area. I may try to get a warranty replacement...
Just got mine replaced in my 2016 F-350 at 3300 miles. It was free from Ford or I would have gone to Wal-Mart, most open 24-7 usually fast in out. Had to wait 1 week to get into Ford dealership just to go through 3 hours of testing to get it replaced!
I just got my 2016 replaced for free from Ford also. 36,000 miles and there was corrosion on battery bracket when i took my truck in to replace the front grill for peeling chrome. They replaced the bracket and the battery just to be safe. My 2013 F150 is still on the origional battery and still strong. I cant remember who makes NAPA batteries now, but they did change to Deka a few years ago.One of my best friends is the east coast battery man for NAPA and he said they changed to a better quality brand and I have had no issues from the 6-8 I own. Plus, there are a lot of NAPA stores if you do have a problem. I think Duracel is made by Johnson Controls. I 3 Optima batteries i bought from Advance Auto. Even under warranty they would not warranty them. Advance Auto offerd me a discount on their brand stating Optima would not reimburse them. I had a company account with Advance, like I said...had.
