We were in Wal-Mart yesterday and they have a 750 CCA with a 2 year replacement for $78, thinking after things calm down after the 1st that's they way I'm going to go. It's made by Johnston Controls if that really makes any difference.
Denny
well Johnston Controls are here in the USA. even if the factory is not..
I know an engineer there.. not seen him since the office closed in Ohio and moved to Wisconsin...
I've always had good luck with Walmart batteries. I buy them there because they are cheaper than everywhere else, the warranty is just as good, and no matter where you go, there is a Walmart somewhere near by.
The battery in my lawn mower is over 6 years old. Never had a trickle charger on it. It's from walmart. Never had any other lawn battery last more than 2 years. I did have to jump it off at the beginning of this last season, but it just will not die.
mid October , my battery in the truck died.. in my driveway... 8/2011 - 10/2017.. and 150,000 miles.
day before I got a $40.00 on-line coupon from Advanced auto parts.. order on-line and pick up in store in 30 minutes..
Advanced is 1/2 mile from my house.
real Good timing... with a 1,800 mile trip in 2 weeks towing heavy.
my lawn tractor battery is also Advanced auto.. like 4 years old
The two longest lasting batteries I ever had were NeverStarts from Walmart because they are open 24 hours and I had to have them right now. One car battery and one was a deep cycle. They were the yellow and black ones. I don't know exactly but it was like seven or eight years for each.
I had the "Duracell" batteries from Sam's in the '02 for years. Never an issue. Just put the same battery in the '12. These are made by Johnson Controls. Good name in the automotive battery world. They make a couple brands. Sam's does free installation and has a 3 year full replacement warranty. Can't beat it for the price.
I had two Interstate Batteries in my 6.0 that lasted 6 years. Not bad for how hard diesels are on batteries with glow plugs cycling.
My 6.2 has a 650CCA Motorcraft battery in it which was put in in 2015. Started like a warm engine with outside temps around zero and several days prior out sitting in -20f or below. Real cold winters are hard on batteries for sure.
I can't lie I've been nervous the last few mornings we had a couple nights below freezing. One more to go and I get uneasy until I get in and hear it start.
I bought mine from Menards. Exide Nascar Extreme $104. The one in my Jeep is from 2014. Living in Illinois the temp been below 0 for awhile and it starts strong.
Dumb question: I have been looking at odyssey pc1750t and it lists it has a pulse start CCA of 1750, is there any possibility of that being to many CCAs?
I am looking to upgrade due to running a plow and my battery is getting tired.

My factory dual battery setup has 1500 CCA's so you should be fine. Wouldn't matter if it's from one battery or two. When my stock batteries kick the bucket I will most likely go for a pair of the serviceable Walmart Everstart MAXX-65N with 850 CCA's for a total of 1700 CCA's.
Well I don't know if I accomplished anything but I took my battery out and charged it 2 amps for two hours then put it back in. Ten mm for the hold downs and eight mm for the terminals. Just trying to be proactive in this weather.

my opinion, 4 amp hours..
on a good battery. its like putting a New head on a cold beer...
on a weak battery.. very little..

Had mine not be able to crank enough last week. So since its been hovering 0 or in the negatives, Ill idle it on break/lunch or few hours before I go to work to assure itll start. Firsr start of the day is rough, but rest are good.
Also looking for new battery. Cant be guessing whether or not Ill be able to leave work or not.
fyi, for many years in the 60's and 70's,,, I had 2 batteries in my cars...
one under the hood, one in the trunk.... using welding cables.
Now, If I think the battery may not get me Home.. I replace it.
years ago.. when the KEY was OFF.. no power drain... no electronics.
today's world.. always a drain.
master computer, body computer, radio, keyless entry.. remote door locks, remote start.... is ALWAYS ON. and pulling power from the battery.
YES, the first thing in the morning..
is the most likely for it NOT to start. "Cold Soak" as night is the coldest part of the day.
When I get back to the states and pick up a new truck, I think I'm going to install a charger pig tail on my battery terminals for quick hook-up like I did on my previous Harleys. I've had my travel trailer batteries hooked up for 18 months to one of these: BatteryMINDer® Model 128CEC1 12V 2/4/8 AMP Charger/Maintainer/Desulfator
I know it'll do my truck batteries well during extreme cold (overnight charge) or longer periods of inactivity.
