program new proximity key, possible without dealer?
I just bought a 2017 F250 in salvage auction in Houston, a victim of hurricane Harvey in Houston.
Was advertised with keys, when I went to collect, it seems someone swiped them
Last time a bough a ford without keys, I took title to the dealer, they cut me a basic key used just to open door and turn ignition. I bought 2 more blanks off ebay, had them both cut at ace hardware.
I then used a key programmer to gain access to the security (waited the standard 10 minutes) delete all keys and program new ones. Worked immediately.
This truck seems a little different, it has nowhere to put the blade, just a start button and seemingly uses proximity keys instead.
Does anyone know if these can be programmed without help from the dealer? I can get the initial blade from them (that slides into the proximity key) but don;t want to have to trailer the truck all the way to dealer unelss absolutely necessary. The blank proximity keys are around $80 each on ebay
I have yet to do proximity keys with the new superdutys but I have programmed proximity keys to bmw. Steps are almost identical, I would try with FMP with a J2534. Only concern I have is with a key in the ignition I was able to get the computers to boot and program all new keys. The bmws I have done I have had at least one proximity key to start with to get the modules to boot up. Tho the PATS module might boot upon opening the door. Not 100% sure but should be doable. I know in the platinum the spot to the left of the cup holders under the first and 2nd spill tray there is a spot that has the outline of a key fob im assuming thats the set spot to start with a fob having a dead battery. Hope this helps

any pointers would be appreciated
If you had at least two working keys, you could program new proximity keys yourself but since you don`t have any keys, a trip to the dealer will be required for programming.
At least two working keys are required for the owner to program new keys on his or her own and the instructions are in the owners manual
I`d say you`re going to be looking at around 350-500 dollars for new fobs and programming.
truck is 2017, a few months old, I paid just over 30k for it. still smells brand new inside. Hopefully wont have too much work to do to bring it up to scratch.\
of course there are a glut of flood vehicles after the hurricanes, thats pushed the prices down a bit
