Emblem removal, tips or tricks getting ashtray staying shut.
Hello all , I recently came across some awesome ford emblems I want to install where the original ones are. I've heard using dental floss, fishing line, etc. Any other suggestions because I'm not sure if the original ones have the 3 post design on them and I don't want to have them break off. Also do you guys have any tips on how to keep the ashtray shut ? I've tried Velcro but it losses it's adhesive after about 2 days and falls off. 04 f150 fx4 58,045 mi.
Heat the emblems with a hair dryer or heat gun, and then try the fishing line. The adhesive residue will take some patience to remove, but gas or carb spray on a rag will get it. A few tiny dabs of Crazy glue on the back of the velcro should do the trick there.
I too have removed emblems and stripes with a heat gun. Just don't overheat anything so as to not damage paint. Also, use gloves and have a selection of tools handy like pliers, screwdrivers, scraper, etc. since things will be hot to the touch.
I used dental floss and cut the emblems off by flossing it off. it worked great, use lighter fluid or WD-40 to clean up the residue. Worked like a charm.
