I tow a 5th wheel camper. This morning, in a rush, I managed to drop the $&%$ thing and crunched the tailgate in good fashion. It's kind of U shaped at the moment. The handle has fallen off. How do I release the side catches so I can get the thing off? I assume I start by removing the cover plates on the inside surface of the gate, but what do I look for then? Would appreciate any input. Thanks!
You should be able to remove the cover on the inside of the tailgate. then remove the latch to get access to the latching mechanism. Sorry you had this happem. Hopefully that's the extent of the damage
See if you have anyone doing body building near by. I have a guy near me that
when he puts tool boxes or flatbeds on he sells the bed with all the goodies for
about $800 last time I talked to him. The only down side is they come in white.
I recently got a tailgate for $75 that was in excellent condition. Paid $150 for an "OK" paint job. $225 all in wasn't bad. Hopefully you can find a good one too. I used Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market to find mine.
