Yesterday i loaded up a small garden shed into the back of my truck.. i have a tool box so i don't have all 8 feet. it just barely fit with some some pushing and squeezing from my tail gate.. today when i went to take it out where i was dropping it off.. i went to pull my tailgate handle.. it was pretty tough pull. probably from the tension from the box. I heard a little pop and the handle went limp. i was pretty angry. So its locked in the up position.
i need to fix my tail gate. what do yall think broke? am i able to get into the guts of the tailgate to replace anything that broke?
If it is up and you have something jammed up against the tailgate you will not be able to remove the inside cover. Lift the handle and look under it, you should see a metal rod coming from each side of the tailgate. No this will take at least two maybe three people, have some push in on the tailgate at the edge to take the pressure off of the latch, while they are pushing in, grab the rod coming from that side with a pair of pliers and pull the rod towards the other side of the truck. This will retract the latch and release that side. Repeat with the other side and lower the tailgate. once it is down you can remove the inside cover to fix the problem.
thanks for the advice.. i was able to get the shed out.. it was dissasambled in a box. so i just cut the top of the box off and pulled the pieces out and threw the box away.. the bed is empty now.
