Drum brake question

99 e250 ext cargo
going to change the drum brakes. Never looked at them before. Had van for 10 years changed front twice.
What size are they 2 1/2 or 3 inch??
do I need to replace all the springs?
Shoes type prefrence?
1st time drum brakes what should I not do. Been watching YouTube vids.

Do only one side at a time so you have the other for reference.
Might even take a few pictures before you take one apart.

Spring kits are cheap enough I just replace them. My theory is it helps keep the self adjusters working right.
Make sure the adjusters thread in and out smoothly.
I like to put a thin film of grease on the pivot points and where the shoes rub on the backing plate. You'll see the shiny spots.

I hate drum brakes.

Hard to believe they're cheaper to make than discs - which would be the only reason OEMs still use them.

Just replaced the shoes and wheel cylinder, all new springs and hardware. Hopefully no one noticed broken lug.

Supposedly, has to do with the higher cost or complexity of the parking brake mechanism with disc brakes.
