Hello, new to the forum, have a question that some one may be able to help with.
1995 f250 7.3 4x4.
121k miles.
Kind of of a weird problem but, not thinking it is a big problem.
The other day, went to the dump (10 minutes away from my house). Truck shifts normally, get to the dump, put truck in Park left it running and unloaded trash. 5 minutes at the most.
Put in drive and while leaving, truck will start strong but, will not shift into second. It will rev high with limited power, I let my foot off the pedal, Rpms drop to idle, while still moving I step on accelerator and nothing. It just revs.
I then shifted into 2, got power. Left it in 2 for 10 seconds, shifted back to drive and it shifts normally.
This happens when I drive long distance, short distance and whether I let it idle for a while or shut it off briefly.
When I replaced the water pump a few months ago, I had the guy do a scan( with the proper tool) no codes.
I replaced the speed sensor, no help.
It it does have a led strip light connected to the brake lights.
Remove the LED light and try it, LED males the TC not lock not sure thats yoir problem but worth a shot hopefully Mark K. Can shime in give his knoweledge about the problem.

LEDs cannot cause no shifts. That's not the problem.
The first thing to do is check for codes. I know there were no codes a while ago, but that doesn't mean anything today.
These 7.3 transmission dip sticks are the hardest to read, both on my 97 and 99. Even in bright light it is hard to determine where the fluid level actually is. That stupid white bulb at end of the dip stick stick doesn't show up clean red transmission fluid very well. Very easy to overfill - underfill, ask me how I know, lol.
The problem was happening back when the water pump was done, that's why I had him scan it.
I will contact him and most likely I can drop by and have him check again.
Fluid is bright red and appears to be at the correct spot on the dipstick.
It has a high capacity transmission pan and temp runs 160-165.
Thanks for the replies.
I will let you know what the scan says as soon as I get it done.
Can you use the AutoEnginuity to look at data? Specifically, what does the PCM show for vehicle speed when this happens? I suspect a problem with the PSOM not sending vehicle speed to the PCM.
I don't know anything about the tool.
Didn't check while driving, just hooked it up to check for trouble codes.
One thing ink I forgot to add. The first couple times this happened, I would pull off, hop under the truck and pull the connection to the speed sensor.
Plug it back in, start the truck and it would run normally.
Done that before and usually doesn't fix the real issue.
Drove her today, with more stops/starts/idling than I have since I bought her.
No problems whatsoever, I will finally have some time to trace some wiring and look at connections tomorrow.
