I own a 1996 FORD F250 4X4 SUPER CAB 7.5 LITER GAS E4OD AUTO TRANS with 187000 mileage on it. Check engine light came on started shifting hard and stalling. Replaced FUEL FILTER PLUGS CAP ROTOR O2 SENSOR. Had engine scaned by local garage said THROTTLE POSTION SENSOR BAD. Had it replaced and set. Still problems TRANS SHIFTS HARD and STILL STALLS. Took it back scaned it again NO CODES CAME UP. Replaced a FUEL PRESSURE SWITCH/VALVE. STOPED THE STALL PROBLEM. STILL HAD IDLE ISSUE WITH IDLE SPEED SO WE REPLACED THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. Idle stays steady but is still high also HAD INJECTORS CLEANED ON THE TRUCK WITH INJECTOR CLEANER ON A MACHINE/TOOL AT THE RAIL. Still have shift problems first and second gear shifts early third gear and over drive shifts late. CHANGED FILTER DRAINED TORQUE CONVERTER AND REPLACED FLUID. Check ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON NO CODES COME UP TRANS SHIFTS HARD SHIFTS EARLY SECOND AND THIRD GEAR AND LATE IN TO OVER DRIVE, DOWN SHIFT ON HILLS WITH NO LOAD. What to look for or go to next puzzled.
When i changed the transfluid it was very discolored... It smelt a little burnt too.. But there was no shavenings in the pan only an only a few on the magnetic. As for the codes.. None come up anymore.. At first a few came up and i changed the throttle postion sensor and the O2.. But since than the machine dosen't pick it up.. Well the codes are being checked with a snapon brand tester that my friend at the local garge owns..
Also the engine light is still on. It will turn on and off.. But most of the time it is on.. There still is somewhat of a low end idle problem.. The idle isn't constant and will stay at 1,100 rpm when it should be at 600-700 rpm..
On late 94 - present models just disconnecting the battery will not work because on OBD2 systems you need a computer diagnostic tool to clear the codes. When it shifts hard do you mean like a big clunk? because just shifting firm is not a bad thing.
Yeh when it shifts it is a big clunk. One clunk around 10 another around 25 anther around 35 and another sround 50 depends on how hard you step on it...
Another thing is the clunk can be the rear Ring & pinion gears having too much clearance also, my dodge ram has that. Also your driveshaft U-joints can be bad too so both of those can be a culpret for the clunk too.
Those speeds you posted are around the regular shift points, first is a tiny bit early but the other 2 are where they are supposed to be. Regular throttle is 1= 12 - 15 mph, 2= 23 - 27 mph, 3 = 33 - 37mph
