Is there a way to test the health of my injection pump? The truck runs ok I'm just wondering if there is a way to inspect the pump and peek inside to determine if it is on the way out the door in the near future. My theory is if I some sort of issue I want to save for a new pump now vs not knowing and have it crap out and leave me in a pickle
Mine died at 200K w/o warning while driving. Truck just quit.
FWIR 150K is the normal lifespan unless fuel lubricants have been used.
One 'warning' of a worn pump is hard to start when warm.

I have 183k. Starts fine. I use fuel additives. If only had truck little over a year. I'd rather save for it and loon for signs of wear and replace it before it craps out
So far, I haven't had an IP actually /die/ on me; usually they just get funky timing wise, very retarded and not want to work right or sticky governor etc.
Also seals starting to leak is a common 'failure'(fuel dripping out the weep hole at the bottom of the IP)
Due to the design, it has to work it's hardest when trying to start(due to the low pressure in the transfer pump, low cranking speed meaning more leaks around the rotor), so you should run into starting issues before it actually fails.
Obviously, anything can randomly explode... but it's pretty rare.

that's good info thank you. I have to replace the high pressure lines this weekend. One's seeping so that's why I wanted to see about checking the pump out. I heard somewhere that in the spot of the fuel screw somewhere there is a screen and if it's got build up on it that's not good?

Uh... Usually they just need tightening, IF it's seeping from the high pressure line. If it's on the injector end, you want to look at the return cap underneath first; those leak all the time.

I do know that there's a screen on the fuel inlet side of the pump, right at the very back. You'll want to read through a complete IP teardown and rebuild guide; I recall it being available as a downloadable PDF somewhere on the internet. Remember, these are a Stanadyne DB2 pump.
Also, watch this:

thanks for the video. And no the return line kit is new. It's the middle of the line that is seeping and wet
