What if i cut the Line and weld sealing both sides? I drive my v10 with another cooler with fan, but here in the Beach in Costa Rica its to warm, usually runs at 70-87 the tranny.
Reviving an old thread here. I am replacing my transmission cooler lines on my 2002 F250 because they are looking crusty. One started leaking last week so I used Dorman for a quick fix. Now ordered genuine ford lines for the other 2 and doing them as preventative maintenance. I am also doing the “flush” and filter change per Marks method and filling with mobil 1 multi vehicle that meets or exceeds the mercon V spec.
Have a couple questions for you @Mark Kovalsky if you have the time.
1. Is it worth buying a brand new 7.3 trans cooler? At $160 or so for OEM seems like wise preventative maintenance. Id upgrade to a 6.0 cooler but I don’t tow a lot and when I do its not heavy.
2. My TFTs are running around 75-90 degrees or so above ambient doing unloaded driving on country roads. (Not stop and go and not highway) I believe 60-100 above ambient is the range.
3. Is it worth doing a rebuild of the bypass valves or banjo bolts as preventative maintenance? I dont plan to do a delete for reasons stated above.

If the trans hasn't failed I don't see any reason to replace the cooler.

Those temperatures are normal.

That's not a bad thing to do. The spring that operates the bypass does tend to get weak and allow the bypass to operate when it shouldn't, causing the trans to run hot. It doesn't look like you have this problem, but the rebuild kit is cheap and easy to install.

I don't know enough about transfer cases to make a recommendation.
