Hey all, thinking about adding powered steps, AMP power step XL. As others have posted the chrome on my steps is already starting to peel. I like the look of the power step XL, curious if anyone has any experience with these steps and how the like, etc.
I installed the regular AMP Research Powersteps on my truck a few months ago. From my research, the AMP steps are the ones to go with. Less issues reported & better customer service with them. Install was easy & they've been working great. I got the steps with the 'plug n play' so I didn't need to find and then tap into any wires. There is a connector that plugs into your OBD2. If you use the OBD2, they do make splitters.
I went with the regular steps vs the XL. On my truck, 2015 F350 4X4 with leveling kit, the XL would have made the distance (step) from the Powersteps to door sill more than the distance from the ground to Powersteps. Although I like the rocker panel rail that comes with the XL, I thought the step up difference would be weird.
Looks like the 'XL' is extra low. Don't have that flavor, but the regular ones are much lower than a fixed step anyhow. I run 3" lift/37 and regular ones are low enough.
I have random cases were they do not extend. About fell out one time. Had then 3 years and keep them lubed. They struggle below freezing.
As for the look, I like that they can't be seen, and don't hang down limiting clearance.
I had them installed about a month after I bought the truck since it didn't come with any steps.
As mentioned above they do come down slightly more that the factory steps which is a big plus for my wife.
Highly reccomend!

Thanks for the feedback, between Utah and Idaho I definitely see more cold weather than I'd like.
I'd like to get a set of these one day, I love having side steps for convenience but I definitely love the way the truck looks without them. So these are definitely best of both worlds.....maybe one day
