I recently found out I was missing my charcoal can, pretty sure those are of the few emissions that actually help. So, what I need is some pictures of location and hose routing. as well do I need anything special? I still have a purge valve but that's the extent of it.
Yeah I don't get why guys delete these things, all it does is capture fuel vapors from the tank/s so it can be put to use in the engine, why disable that system on a big block truck especially.
The "can" looks like this and it is usually located on the frame rail just behind the rad support.
2 nipples would be correct I believe, one is input from the tanks and the other is output to the purge solenoid. The two larger nipples are vents and should have special caps on them.
Well that's going to be an issue the one I ordered doesn't appear to have caps installed. Dumb question but where is the purge valve supposed to reintroduce to the intake?
This is what i'm currently working with. Ignore the green tapped 9.
The cut hose in your pic goes to the Throttle body on my 4.9. It has a Y connection right before the TB and goes to the two nipples on top of the TB in back. The hose under your ring finger goes directly to the charcoal canister on my 4.9. There is no T involved like yours that runs from the coffee can.
Oh my! your engine is gorgeous! It wouldn't surprise me if some one chimes in saying mine is routed wrong as of now that line hits the can and this guy here which is also all jacked up
The hose that goes to from the charcoal canister to the purge is right above the two vac lines coming out of the coffee can. I don't know but I don't think yours is correct. I am only involved with the 4.9.
Well since you are having engine troubles and you like looking at others engines, here is mine. Never shy about showing mine since I know what it looked like when I started.
My lord that might be one the best looking engine bays I've seen on these old truck. I've gotta ask how long did that take, and do you have a before picture?
Actually I am still working on cleaning it. I started back it Sept of 16 and try to clean something every day. Now that it is painted and new seats I have more time to get back to the motor. It runs very good thanks to the great folks on here helping me. The one owner had it serviced regularly but never did anything to it. I thought the truck was grey when I bought it and then washed it and it was black. So you can imagine the engine bay. Sorry no before pics but I can still visualize it.
Man that's crazy, and I a bit jealous I got mine from AZ as the 3rd owner the guy I got mine from said "yea it's a great truck some paint and fuel and it would be perfect". first day I had it i rebuilt all the steering had 6in of play in the wheel and the tie rods looked like they had been to war... then I went through both fuel tanks failing me in the middle of the desert so had to walk into town buy a fuel pump and rebuild it on the side of the road. Couple months later had the whole ignition system take a dump in almost the same place so had to walk back again and rebuilt all that after a tow due to it being more than just a dead coil and stator... this truck has been hard fought to get to Texas now I'm about to drive it to our new home in Nevada towing my 79 bronco! And these have just been the major issues that popped up I'm probably 4k in and still need paint and more fuel. Lol
