Hello folks. New member here. I am looking for answers on a 2006 F250 with a 6.0, at a little over 200,000 miles. Currently I have taken it to two separate dealerships in the area with absolutely no results. The truck drives fine, starts fine, and for the most part, runs great. Except when it dies. It dies with no warning, at anytime. Warm, hot, cold, on the interstate, back road, driveway, where ever. It doesn't stutter, miss or signal, just quits running. Both dealerships have kept it for weeks, and driven it daily, and of course, then it never skips a beat. No codes have showed up that would cause the stall, and they are baffled. Anybody seen this before?
If you aren't getting any codes, then inspect the injector wiring harness closely and inspect the FICM connections (sometimes the tabs on the connectors break and they don't "snap" back into place).
Summary of common wire harness chafing locations:
Upper left valve cover or valve cover stud near the FICM
Left front valve cover hold down bolts/studs
Idler pulley under the thermostat (wiring routed around the power steering pump)
Exhaust Back Pressure (EBP) sensor bracket at thermostat housing
Right valve cover at glow plug control module (GPCM)
Front left of intake manifold near breather tube and air inlet duct
CKP wiring near A/C compressor and belt tensioner
Accelerator Pedal pivot point (under dash)
PCM harness at battery box
12A581 harness circuit 1044 (WH/YE) near connector C1443 (left rear corner of engine compartment)
Inspect terminals for "backed-out" or bent pins (FICM, sensors, etc)
If you don't find anything, you can send your FIM to FICMrepair.com for a diagnostic and/or a proactive repair.
Also, you can always get an IPR and just replace the part, but that gets expensive!
Try pressing on the wiring harness where it passes through the oil filter and fuel filter, mine did that on wife and almost cost me a truck. Service writer thought I was crazy till I showed him and the mechanic died every time I pressed on the wires right their , they changed both wiring harnesses and given a two thousand dollar bill. Last time it went to a dealership, they said high cost was labor for wiring harness sitting on top of motor, maybe but don't think so rate books might need to be looked at as people get knowledge of their jobs. I had no chaffs marks on any of the harnesses .
