Question for the M block guys: My new block has a port on left front of motor for a dipstick tube. My setup uses dipstick tube that's threaded into the oil pan. I actually wouldn't mind pipe plugging the oil pan, and going with the front dipstick. Any of you M block guys think that'd work? I guess I could just put both in, fill with oil, and compare readings. Or would I be better off plugging the front hole? If so, what would you plug it with?
The front dipstick location is for RWD front sump applications. I haven't tried it, but looking at the RWD engine I picked up vs. my 4x4 engine currently in my F150, the front of the 4x4 pan isn't deep enough for the RWD dipstick.
Thanks guys. I was about to order that plug kit, but then I remembered McMaster Carr. Just ordered expansion plug from them.
Can you believe a few guys suggested JB Weld?

No such thing as a RWD engine block. There's only one block, but you need a core plug to plug off the dipstick hole.

Respectfully ND, I didn't say the block was different, I said the engine, meaning the whole assemblage of parts, is different for a RWD than a 4x4. As you well know the oil pan, dipstick, oil pump pickup, and a main bolt are different between the two applications. The block is just one part of an engine.
