Today I started the swap of my engines. both '71s, one a 360 2wd, the other a stroked 396 4x4. On the 4x4s the oil sump is to the rear, opposite of the 2wd. And the dipstick comes directly out of the oil pan. As you probably know on the 2wds the dipstick is located just behind the fuel pump/filter assy. Since I had to swap pans, the motor in the 4x4 now has 2 dipsticks My question is what do your recommend I use to plug the original hole in the block for the 360 dipstick?
Without going outside tonight to look at my trucks, is the hole you're trying to plug in the block? If so, I would find a freeze plug that would fit. Clean the hole with some brakleen or laquer thinner, then use gorilla snot (aka yellow death, aka 3M weatherstrip adhesive) around the freeze plug before you install it. Just an idea.
Yes, it's in the block and the hole is about 1/4" or so (the dia. of a dipstick tube), so I have not seen a freeze plug that would fit that.
BTW, Faithful, I got a personal message from you a week or two ago. I was not able to reply, and asked the mods. to send the message, but I don't know if you ever got it. I now forget what it was about. <!Either steering column I wanted or saddle gas tanks you wanted.>
If you have a problem finding a freeze plug that size, you can try tapping the hole and use a threaded plug. But then you really need to have the pan out to make sure no metal chips get into the block.
