Hi!
I would need some help because I am going to import some Engine Enamel and Vinyl Paint/Dye from U.S and dont want to order wrong shade of blue for the Engine. I was reading old threads but I am still not sure what to order.
VTH has 4 different Ford blue (light blue, dark blue, new ford blue, competition Ford blue) Dupli-Color has 3 (ford dark blue, ford blue, old ford blue)
I suppose the dark blue is the correct one but looking of Pictures from Trucks and Broncos most Engines have a "medium dark" shade of blue. Can you please help me out here?

When I was seeking some brushable engine paint for my 1976 460 I was also a bit confused on the correct blue. The solution was to take the top of the air cleaner to a building materials store (Lowe's) that had a color matching machine. They did an excellent job. It looks just like what Ford used.
Thanks a lot guys!
Ozzie H. It was a really great suggestion but my problem now is I dont have one blue part on my Engine. P.O mounted Chrome Valve Covers, Engine Block is black and Air Cleaner is the ugly stock aluminum.
HIO Silver. It was nice to see all 3 shades. I still have one blue in my memory from a 351w -69 I had a couple of years ago (picture below) and I Think it had a similar blue shade as your engine in the first Picture from the old thread. You called it "medium" below the Picture and the Engine was from 1968. Do you know what blue that Engine had?
Thanks a lot guys!

Sorry. Dunno the brand that matches closest to that OEM color in the pic.
I suggest doing some "spray-outs". However, you can try specing the engine color from a 68 Mustang which should be the same as the F Series of that era.
I think Ford dark blue is almost a Navy Blue color. I repainted my air cleaner and ended up getting RLL-272008 "Old Ford Blue" from Summit. It looks like the color of the 351W-69 in your pic but also matches some other paint companies "Ford Blue"...
I knew it was darker than my valve covers (as you see in pic) but I liked that color. Valve covers are "Ford Light Blue".
Perfect! I will go for the "old ford blue" too. It just looked a lot darker in the Pictures of the Engine from HIO Silver but I suppose Pictures can vary alot.
Do you use heat resistant primer under the Engine Enamel?
Thanks a lot everyone!!!
I use to use Plasti Kote religiously....then they changed. And I stayed away from Dupli Color 'cause they bit the big one....now they have changed for the better. That's what I use now....DE-1606 Ford Dark Blue. Good stuff.
And I don't use any primer on the engine or valve covers.
