So i have already switched to a hei ingtion and distributor, can i replace my 1bbl carb with the 2 barrel with adapter plate? I know its not the best combo but i dont have the money to drop for a 4bbl and and new manifold. Does anyone have experience that have done it or pictures?
You definitely can go that route and it'll fit, but the main issue is that the stock manifold is quite restrictive. So, even though you'll have a 2bbl on there, it's not going to let a whole lot more air/fuel through.
It's like blowing air through a drinking straw. Even if you get someone with a bigger lung capacity, you still can only get so much air through the straw. You have to make the straw bigger at some point to really benefit.
i have done it. it does make a noticeable difference. I ran a 2 bbl mc2150 w/ an adapter on top of an edelbrock intake for a while. Its nothing like an offy intake with a 4 bbl, but there are gains to be had by just going to a 2 bbl.
if you like to drive it like you stole it, and want more tuneability, save up for an offy and nice holley.
if budget is more of a concern, and you feel like you need to upgrade now, the 2 bbl swap is a good compromise.
BTW I really dig the stance of your truck. I'd like to get my hands on a 2WD shortbox bullnose and do something similar. you've got a sharp looking ride there!
yes sir that is correct. I'm not sure of any quantifiable data of specific gains...nor did I run it on the dyno before or after. I did feel significant differences across all rpms and throttle positions. it's nothing like the offy C / QF setup I have now...but its a couple steps above stock for sure.
Thanks for the complaint and appreciate you guys input, ive been doing everything in stages, the ultimate goal will be the 4bll and intake but i had to start from the beginning because of the feedback carb but even the one barrel non feedback was a significant gain being able to properly tune it finally.
That is a Tech article on converting to 2V from 1V. One can use adapters but the better remedy might be to mill the intake to accommodate the 2V. You will have to scroll down a ways to get to the pictures of that kind of conversion.
That adapter in the Summit link (2025) is for the real small Rochester 2gc four bolt pattern, and some others. The ford 2 barrel carbs and some Hollys are much larger. I ran a 2100 ford on a Toyota Landcruiser jetted down to I think 46's and got 20 mpg when conditions were just right. It was off of a 67 bronco 289, and had the small bores.
the 2041 will work, but you'll need to either use a thick insulator gasket for an MC 2150, or make a plate...otherwise you'll have a massive vaccum leak in the back at the base.
