I am thinking the 1bbl I have on my 79 is way overtaxed especially now that I have a highway transmission. I think its dieing after having sat anyway.
I am considering something like a motorcraft 2100/2150 or a 400 cfm Holley and an adapter to match it up to my stock intake. I do not know much about stuff like this but I assume I can mount most any carb with a 2bbl holley adapter?
I would also consider an intake swap. 43-4502WH
I would use a 2V carb on an aftermarket intake with the appropriate carb adapter. Either a MC 2100/2150 or a Rochester 2GC. Both are inexpensive options.
I run an mc2150 that I pulled from an 80s f250 with a 351w under the hood. they're simple carbs, easy to rebuild, and even easier to tune (in my experience.) FF is right though...to reap the full benefits of the extra air/fuel, one should consider a different intake manifold. choking a 2 bbl down to a single barrel orifice kinda defeats the purpose. I suppose it would be possible to hog out, then smooth the bore once you bolt on your adapter to open it up? I've heard some fellas get some "gains" from that.
not a carb expert but when you refer to a 'highway transmission' I assume you mean something with a decent overdrive? IF that is the case your air requirements at highway speeds are LOWER, not higher, since the engine is turning fewer rpms. Better performance, carb needing rebuild, etc. are good reasons for needing a new carb - but not the transmission.
yeah but that requires the additional fuel/air to be burned more efficiently for the condtions. then you get into cams, exhaust mods, ignition upgrades, p/p the head, etc. gotta pay to play.
