Am I seeing that correctly? Is the front axle tied directly to the frame?
Man that would be a rough ride.

No, he has a width wise spring in the front, like the red truck posted above it. That's what I thought at first but then I took a closer look. Nothing people who build rat rods surprise me any more, not ever the value they put on their piles of rusty scrap.

Don't know much about inline 6's. See them at the drags sometimes and the inline 6 in the video sounds pretty darn healthy so maybe it is the motor he is trying to get his $$ out of

They are not that rare. Not worth that unless they were NOS. A lot of school buses had them not too long ago.

I bought one off Ebay for $25 in perfect condition. He's dreaming, but you never know.

I like the I beam mounted to the square tubing. Hope he checks it every time he comes to a stop, I mean every stop.

Also looks like he's got WMs running on that heap.

Ok... I have to admit, I kinda like this one. If you're going to have a chicken truck, might as well do it in style.

I wouldn't consider that an "Ugly" truck, maybe "odd" but definitely a "Working" truck. Must have been a popular commercial modification back in the '50s.

Those are great pics. I guess that was a barn find... or a Chicken coop find! I wonder what the new owner did to it.

Are these trucks from the same Chicken place?

I wonder how many drivers had heads chopped off by low overheads?

OOps I see someone beat me with the pics! Good job. I don't have some of them. Thanks.

So they were selling candy? and not chicken dinners? Do you Wisconsin guys remember them from your childhood?

It looks like the one Stephen posted was not from the candy company... perhaps bought from them and changed the name???

OK, two things about these chicken trucks.

First, they were used by Sperry Chicken Dinner, which wasn't a chicken dinner restaurant but a candy bar.

The Clucking Sweet History of a Candy Bar Called Chicken Dinner | Mental Floss

Second, the company was established in Milwaukee, WI. I've lived in Milwaukee for the first 24 years of my life and lived to the north for the rest of my life. According the article the company was bought out the year I was born. I never heard anyone talk about this company, we had many big name candy companies in Milwaukee. There is a local franchised chicken delivery, Champion Chicken, that still uses a dressed up delivery truck. They bought their first truck, one of Chicken Dinner's trucks and used it for their business.

Stephen's truck had a location of Lacrosse, that's on the other side of the state so I would think it's a good chance it was a Chicken Dinner truck. Looks like they had a good sized fleet and probably sold them off every so often. The current chicken place said on their website they bought theirs in 1959.
