I wouldn't consider that an "Ugly" truck, maybe "odd" but definitely a "Working" truck. Must have been a popular commercial modification back in the '50s.
Second, the company was established in Milwaukee, WI. I've lived in Milwaukee for the first 24 years of my life and lived to the north for the rest of my life. According the article the company was bought out the year I was born. I never heard anyone talk about this company, we had many big name candy companies in Milwaukee. There is a local franchised chicken delivery, Champion Chicken, that still uses a dressed up delivery truck. They bought their first truck, one of Chicken Dinner's trucks and used it for their business.
Stephen's truck had a location of Lacrosse, that's on the other side of the state so I would think it's a good chance it was a Chicken Dinner truck. Looks like they had a good sized fleet and probably sold them off every so often. The current chicken place said on their website they bought theirs in 1959.
