Transmission flush

Anyone have any good videos of flushing the transmission out of an 1997 F150. I'm having a hard time locating the input and output lines to the radiator. I don't know which it is top or bottom one

There is an easy way to tell which is which.
Start the engine cold , apply brakes hard in Drive or Low gear so the truck does not move and hold a good amount of throttle for about a 45 seconds or so..
Then stop.
Feel which line got warm from converter fluid shear.
That is the one FROM the trans and the one you will pump fluid out of.
Your year should have a converter drain plug.
Take the rubber housing plug off the bottom and turn engine over to see if you have that plug at some point in the converter rotation..
Good luck.

After doing this go buy a new torque converter. Doing this for 45 seconds will probably destroy the converter. 10 seconds followed by time in neutral or park to cool is the most I would do.

That's Baloney Mark.
A converter takes more punishment pulling a trailer every time there is a need to stop and start out again repeatedly while on the road.
Remember I did not say full throttle.
Only enough long enough to heat the fluid enough to feel the difference at the radiator input.

Good luck.

Can you elaborate a little more on where the converter drain plug is? I've watched some videos but none were on the 1997 version. From what I understand is remove connector you mention that connects to the radiation and drain it from there with the engine running and keep adding fluid as needed until it's bright red in color. The whole reason I'm doing this is b/c the trans pan is leaking and needs to be replaced and i thought I might as well flush the system as well.

you have a plug on the converter that will get out 65% of the oil, and pulling the transmission pan will get out 30% of the oil.............. why flush ?.... Just drain the 13 quarts and refill.

yes, you have the location of the plug.. I think it has an allen head on it. Looks like a small pipe plug, but threads are metric I think.. I rolled the motor over with a 2 ft screwdriver prying on the flywheel until the plug was at the bottom. Put it back in with Loctite when done.... You should get about 8 quarts out of the converter, and 5 quarts out of the oil pan.
