93' F150 XLT 5.8L extended cab 4X4 automatic
When I push the 4X4 button I can here the relay click but the transfer case does not engage. I assume it is the solenoid/motor on the transfercase is bad. Is this assumtion correct and if so how hard is it to change?
More than likely the motor that engages the transfer case is the problem , I think if you do a search on this topic you will find where some people have rebulit those motors .
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Nov-01 AT 09:44 AM (EST)] Thanks for the help guys, I will take a look at the motor and thanks for the link. One mor thing what seals should I pickup before removing the motor and opening it up?
It's an Explorer page, but the basic similarities are there. That link directs you to the navigation page, and from there you'll find an article on transfer case repair. A very, very informed site with hands-on experience behind most of the articles.
I was able to fix mine without removing it from the transfer case. As far as a gasket, I just used some "gasket in a tube"...I am not sure if there is an actual gasket for the little cover I pulled off.
That fixed everything, I didn't have to drain the transfercase, but I did cut the wires so I could clean it up some. I also replace those torx head bolt with 3 8/32 by 1/2" slot head bolts. All that was needed was to clean the brushes, contact surfaces, and the ceramic disk. Works like a charm, thanks for all the help!
