I would like to bring up something I don't see mentioned in here. At the end of the day it all comes down to cost. How many more people can they get to buy said engine vs how much to do the research and bring the product to market. That and emissions should and is most likely the reason for how this stuff is designed and marketed to the public. .001 mpg over 10,000 trucks (just an example) is significant and the more fuel efficient models they can push with smaller engines will cost said business less. You guys (in general) just need to realize they are in business to make money. The least they can spend to get the most for their dollar is only sound business. Don't mean to come across as offensive but thats just my opinion.

We know Ford is in it for the money. However, are you familiar with the saying "horsepower sells"? Bumping up the power numbers may bring in more people into the mix. I'm kind of but at the same time not that surprised by how much they are pumping out of that small 3.3L without any help. Last I saw? The 5.0L made 30% of sales, the EcoBoost engines took 30% or a bit more each and the n/a 3.5L was the remaining sales.
I'm surprised not much more has been said on the upcoming hybrid F150...which engine will help it or anything like that. Guess we have another 18 months or so before they release more info on it.
Hmmm... again for whatever reason Ford sandbags the 5.0 in regards to mpg. Anyone get less than advertised? All I see is most everyone getting significantly better...

I have no proof however I constantly get 12.5-13 maxed out 10k trailer loaded with ac blasting with my 5.0. 17-18 horrifying around town. Easy 23-25 cruising highway driving normal. I have screw se with 3.55 301a 4x4

Pulling a single axle trailer with a 1000 RZR, I'll get 14-15mpg, down to 12 up the steep grades.
One trip to Las Vegas pulling the RZR with a massive headwind in Utah I dipped into the 10s 😫
I have no proof either but last year driving from TX to MI and back we were averaging between 20 & 22 mpg and were running 4 over the limit with cruise on. No towing. Not bad for a 5.0L V8 Since I've had mine, Sep. 2015, I have averaged right at 19 mpg combined driving.

A newbe here but a ford F250 owner for 12 years. Those are some really good mileage #'s for a 5.0 gas engine. My F250 6.0 at best only gets 15mpg around town (50/50 highway/city), Highway only best I've seen Flat land is 19-20mpg and towing 10k = 9-10mpg.
I just ordered a new 2018 F150 w/Ecoboost 3.5. Now I'm thinking maybe I should of bought the 5.0 ???

Every now and then I miss my 6.0... overall I really like the 5.0, and would easily get another one.
I think when I order my 18. Here soon in going to go with the eco. Haven't had the current gen truck with eco yet. The 5.0 is incredible towing and cruising. I usually do 2 year leases so wanna compare the new eco to 11-13 trucks
Believe I'll be sticking with the 5.0. Not sure yet as I have plenty of time to decide. Got about 30 mo left on this lease and will buy the next (last) one. Don't want payments after retirement.
