I have a '94 2.3L with 170k miles. Total reliable until today. I drove it yesterday. This morning, turned the key to start it. It turned for maybe a second, then quit. All dash lights went out when it quit. No warning buzzers. No nothing. This includes the lights and horn. The battery is good and showing 12.5v, but I'm getting no power to anything. Is there a fusible link between the battery and the power distribution box on this Ranger? Can anyone tell me or give me advice on where to start checking before I start ripping into the wiring.
Without seeing it in person, I'd just point out it is possible for a defective battery to read 12+ volts across the terminals at rest but will choke under any kind of actual load. If the battery is several years old, this is likely the issue. It's done.
Assuming the battery IS serviceable and charged then, it's fairly straightforward to find the fault considering everything is out. Gotta be something close to the battery or ground point. Check for clean tight (loose) connections or heavy corrosion somewhere.
Here is a wiring link that might help---http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/Wd ,,,I would check the fuse link under hood ,,i think it is a 30 amp or something,,,link will help you find it
