broken wire

pulling my trailer out for a short camping trip to the beach, I notice it seemed to idle rougher although it ran fine. Finally popped the hood and saw a broken red wire dangling near the turn return. I stuck it back in where it broke off because i wasn't sure if it was hot (had voltage on it) or not. It goes to a brass colored "can" back on the turbo. Picture attached. It's the red wire just to the right of the green wire in the center of the picture. What's its function and is it ok to return home Thursday with it broken and fix it when I get back? Not throwing any codes

That isn't a wire it's your waste gate activation hose and it won't hurt to not have it hooked up, many disconnect it all together.

If you don't connect it, you should plug it.

very interesting! Do you have any idea why it would idle rougher, seemingly ok when driving.

I don't see why that would affect your idle if it was unhooked.

one more question: Without the wastegate operating, will the turbo be operating at high speed or at least a higher speed all the time?

So much appreciate your feedback as I was worried about it before and am not now. But it definetly was rougher. So much so that I pulled over and popped the hood to check. Since that was the case, I'll probably go ahead and fix the hose. I'll report back and see if that again changes the idle.

There is a boost pressure level that the wastegate would activate and bleed off excess boost. Without the wastegate you could achieve more boost in the upper end but I do not know what conditions are necessary for you to get there. Mine was disconnected when I got it and left open, I plugged the end of the line.
