I took off turbo to do ebpv delete and had all the related garb off I noticed this was just floating around the other day.
I taped it. Not sure if it is hot. Black wire with red stripe. Thanks!
I removed that wire from the AIH solenoid. Please note the gauge of that wire - it carries a lot of current. If that black tape falls off (incredible as it sounds in a greasy environment), you are exposed to the potential for a very big short.

Isn't the black with red stripe the ground? That's what I had loose on my truck. I took it off and it was just attached to a bolt on the motor. I pulled the solid red wire off the aih solenoid.
Not calling you out tugly, I have a lot of respect for your posts and have read a lot behind the scenes with your info, just wanted to clarify
I actually appreciate it when people catch me when I slip... I dread the idea of leading people to wrong conclusions. Look carefully - that isn't a black wire at all - it's shrink tubing on the connector. I can't explain the red color on there, other than it may have rubbed on something. If you're looking for a black wire with a reddish trace, consider this:
Maybe the coffee hasn't kicked in yet, but I can't remember any large ground wires in the valley - nor can I think of a reason for one with the whole engine being a ground.
My station isn't quite that picky. I deleted mine before the inspections started and have had a Dodge drain plug in with nary a comment or issue.
CA smog techs are still all over the map with diesels. Removing the AIH is a fail but I think it's rarely noticed. Mine was replaced with a boost fitting. I just camoflage by choosing the natural aluminum Riff Raff plug, followed by a spray of WD40 and a few sprinkles of dry dust.
Not a total hijack; there will be a P0541 soft code stored now. Not an issue but if seeing random codes gets under your skin there are code eliminators or resistors that will clean it up.
