I have a 2000 excursion I just purchased, turns out when I got it wipers, 4x4 and some other things didn't work. I found the problem to be the GEM module. Got a new one and now everything works. My problem is that the wipers work normally when I turn it to accessory intermittent and high low and they park when shut off but when the truck is actually running they only have high and low speeds no intermittent and once turned on will not shut off. Unless I turn truck off. I've already confirmed that wiper relay run park is good. I'm down to the switch or motor. My question is what could be the problem. If it was the switch wouldn't it not work regardless if the truck was running or not? And the same with the motor. Any ideas would be helpful.
I suspect the motor. I had a similar problem after I broke my multifunction switch. I was shorting out the contacts with the pieces that broke off but when I installed the new switch the wipers would go haywire and stay on unless I pulled the fuse. There's diodes/resistors or whatnots in the motor housing to control speed and I somehow damaged them by shorting out the wrong/too many contacts. New motor fixed it. Btw mine is an '02 so it could be different.
Thanks for the info everybody . I was thinking the motor or the switch but why would it do it while the truck was running only. I called the company that sold and programmed my new Gem they said they were gonna pull up the schematics and it could be the wipers driver on the GEm or the programming. I figure I'll make sure the GEM is all good then I'll move on to the motor.
