Intermittent washer problems

Started yesterday while driving in the rain. Intermittent wiper would stop and work after a long pause. It will continue to wher it will stop right in the line of site. Continous low and high works fine. Tried using the washer and the wiper wipes 10 times compare to the normal 4. Could this be the switch.?

Truck is a 2001 CC 4X4 7.3 with 100k miles.

Thanks

I replaced 2 motors in mine in a years time. Mine was doing the same thing. It's probably your motor.

DITTO ^^^^^^
Mine started acting up as well so I replaced the motor. Only took about an hour. Remove the cowling, unplug the motor then unbolt the wiper assembly.
Helps to have two sets of hands for this but not required.

If this doesn't fix it then I would start checking the GEM module behind the inside fuse box. Make sure it isn't damp. These trucks have been known for windshield leaks.

Thanks for the reply. I replaced the multi function switch and was still doing the same thing. So I'm taking it back to dealer. GEM? Where would that be located? I'll check that one first before buying a new wiper motor.

Didn't read on but I'll check the GEM. It just started doing this since the rain came. I do notice wet smell when I get in the truck. If it is moist, what do I do next?

If you do have moisture behind the fuse panel, take your truck in to a windshield shop to have it resealed. Once they have it out, take a close look at the metal edge where the windshield sits against. If there are rust spots, clean, sand and primer the spots. This will help with leaks too.
Once that is done, then check the back side of the fuse box for water.... dry it out. Then pull the GEM module and do the same. It is located behind & above the fuse box. Usually a black box about 4x5 inches. Maybe 1in thick.
That one though..if it is soaked....you may have to replace it. Electronics don't fare well with water.

Yeah but you still mentioned a "wet"smell in your truck. Check the passenger side carpet. Make sure it isn't damp
Nice work on the wiper motor tho. On to the next thing!

Just realized my back window to the shell was left open over the weekend. Does look dry under the steering column. I will check the passenger side floor board while I'm at it.
