Well got home and the front of the truck was covered in coolant. I must have driven 2 hrs after I noticed no coolant pressure, but temperature was great so figured it was another crappy cap. Looking to get a quick turnaround. Need to go out of town for work Saturday so I have this week to get it done.
Just put a stock unit back in? I don't think I need to do anything else in that area. Belt/pulleys/radiator all done last spring.

I just went with OEM when I did my front cover last summer.
I have an ISSPRO gauge plumbed into the return line on the Degas bottle.
I put in the motorcraft pump since my local dealer had one on hand for a decent price and needed a quick turnaround.
I was surprised I only needed to add 1 gallon coolant and 1 gallon distilled water. Thought for sure I would have lost more.
Also, had a buddy lend me his fan clutch wrench kit for an air hammer. Those things are awesome.
I am curious as to how you narrowed it down to the water pump.
No coolant pressure means a leak to me. The pressure you get from heating up the coolant is the pressure that you see in the degas bottle (not from the water pump).
Well, I had a leak alright. Front of the engine was soaked in red coolant and left a puddle in the driveway. Put about 600 miles on know and pulled 7000 lb for 250 of it up I81, all seems good. My tech friend said it was likely coming out the weep hole.
I get it now - your mechanic saying it leaked out the water pump seal/weep hole. I misunderstood. I read the comment about thinking it was a crappy cap and assumed it leaked around the cap!

Sorry, I am slow.
Glad you got it working!
I agree, the air hammer is a nice tool to have.
No problem. Always appreciate your input. We all get caught up in the threads at times. Just happy I didn't have a bigger problem. Further proof that multiple areas of monitoring are needed.
