Water Pump was replaced today at 56K
Hello,
My water pump failed and was replaced today. Trying to think of things that I need to check and make sure was done when I pick up my truck.
I'm assuming I should see that they added the coolant conditioner since I figure they had to replace a lot of the coolant. Correct?
What other things should I check when I go pick it up real soon?
As always, thanks in advance.
Brice.

No conditioner needed, they just need to add enough coolant, in the correct ratio to make up for any spilled. If the coolant failed the test, then conditioner would be needed.

Well, its too late now, but I would have instructed the dealer to replace the coolant in both systems and provided them the distilled water to do it, at my cost. At 56K while not yet needed, is far enough in that it would have been worth it. I'll bet the dealer recycled the coolant, and put it back into your system. thats what my local Ford dealer does.

The original coolant is supposed to last 105,000 miles under normal use and then flush and refill every 50, 000 after than. So I could see stepping up and putting new coolant in while replacing the water pump.
I think while they had it apart. I'd probably suggest they replace the Serpentine belt. Yes they will go 100,000+ miles, but they are such a knuckle buster to replace, I'd pay the $100 to have them replace it while the had original off.
When I was a kid back in the 60's. Seems like we replaced a lot of water pumps. I don't hear of it much any. Must be making better pumps.

There are some materials differences but the primary difference is radial loads on the pump shaft are much lower with a serpentine belt compared to v-belts. Beyond that, improper tensioning of the v-belt is a real killer for water pump, alternator, and power steering pump bearings and seals. Nobody seemed to own a tensioner gauge back then and just put a pry bar on the accessory and pulled hard while tightening the bolt.
