2012 F-350,
never had this problem with my past 4 trucks in 30+ years of driving. It seems rocks love the windshield of this model. I dont tail gate at all. But this windshield already has 3 impact stars from rocks. They're sealed and not migrating but im curious if it's a ride hight or coincidence . It seems weekly something is striking the windshield.
Anybody use a hood wind deflector ? ( the small plastic airfoil that runs across the leading edge of your hood)
Thoughts ?
I think it's just coincidence. I bought a Dodge new in '99. I had to have the windshield replaced three times by the time I bought my new SD in '08. That thing seemed to be a magnet for flying debris. I drove the '08 175K miles without even a chip. I bought a '12 SD a little over a year ago, with no impacts yet. You're probably just having a run of bad luck. Just hope that the next impact cracks it so you can get a new windshield.
Coincidence. Put a half dozen windshields into Explorers that had the deflectors, have done one in the F250 in 10 years, and then only because the little nicks were really getting bad, there were a couple of cracks but no major pock marks.
I had a 02 F250 that seamed to be a rock magnet. I had a deflector on the frontend and it made no difference. I think that they are growing bigger rock these days
Hahaha!!!! I bought a lightly used 1978 F250 that had a crack that ran across it about 3 inches up from the bottom. I figured I would change it as soon as the crack bothered my line of vision, or when it got a rock ding in it.....well, I had the truck for over 30 years and NEVER had to change the windshield!!!! Never caught a rock, and the crack never spread!!!!!!!!!
My 1982 F100 windshield was already ate up with cracks when one day we had a bad *** ice storm. So getting ready to leave work I got some warm water to pour on the windshield my coworker was like hey man don't do that . I did it anyway and was just about done pouring the warm water when I heard a nice pop.
1. prevent normal rain from cleaning the windshield
2. disorient bugs before they smash in to the windshield any way
3. rubs the paint off parts of the leading edge of the hood when it shakes/vibrates at highway speeds
4. negates putting rain-X on your windshield (see #1, #2)
5. creates a low pressure area over the hood which always made it appear like the hood was trying to be lifted off
6. They eventually crack and vibrate/shake more (see #3)
7. Drive-thru carwashes can cause issues
I replaced my windshield this year because a rock hit it and it cracked right away. No chance to fix it. truck was only 1 1/2 years old. No other issues windshield was spotless until that happened. Lost the Made in Kentucky sticker as well
