When I owned my 2011 F250 I needed to have the Windshield replaced 3 times due to Stone Strikes. I have owned my 2016 F250 since 10/15/2015, and am on my 4th Windshield already. Am I just Cursed, or are these trucks prone to this happening. I'm wondering if one of those Hood mounted Bug Deflectors might help. Thank goodness for Insurance.
I'd say cursed. I had one replaced in my 2011, from a stone flung up by a Walmart semi. My 2016 has been fine so far, although in bright sunlight, I can see all the pitting from sand, etc.
Don't follow behind semi's. I've had my 2016 for a year and a half and 21,000 miles, no rock chips. If I hear rocks, sand etc hitting my truck I use the go pedal to get around the vehicle dropping the debris.
I remember the good 'ol days of laminated safety glass windshields. They would last the life of the car. These tempered ones, pitt and star and crack with a hard look.
Cursed my friend, my 2004 had the windshield curse as well. I put 4 windshields in that thing. My 2013 - none yet - had 2 stones hit the windshield, one I called Safelite as it was pretty deep, the other which happened Monday I thought I was done. There appeared to be a hairline crack between where I just got hit and the one I had repaired. Cleaned the windshield and I guess it was a spider web or caterpillar silk. I hope I didn't jinx myself, I still have the Kentucky Truck Plant sticker on the windshield, don't want to lose that.

x2 on that Louisville, KY plant sticker. Good luck with that windshield, buddy.
I have the hood mounted deflector on my '15 F-350. I do think it does it's job and helps with the bugs but I seriously doubt it would help with stones. Way too much mass and velocity for a little air flow to interfere with the stone on its trip destined for your window. On a trip to Alaska the other year I got 2 chips that I had filled while taking a R&R stop in Whitehorse, Yukon. They were small and had not shown any tendency to travel. Then further on the way home while in Montana got another one. It also has not begun to spread but I had never had this one filled. So maybe I'm just lucky. Here in the northeast it's not so much of a problem and I'm still on the original windshield.
I never had a glass Problem like I do now, until I bought my 2011 F250, and it seems to have Followed me to the 2016. I thought that It had something to do with the Airflow over the Hood. Most of the Strikes have been Tiny, but Develop into Significant Cracks in a Day or Two maybe due to the FLA Heat. I avoid Driving behind Large Trucks when Possible but I have had Cars kick up Pebbles Too. Unfortunately there is on Going Road Construction around my Location. Thanks for all the responses...……………………..Lew

Semis aren't the only vehicles that kick up rocks.
I suppose they are not. However they are 14 times more likely to kick up rocks. And for the record I have never had a rock hit my vehicles unless it came from a semi or dual rear wheel truck.
My 05 Super Duty had the original windshield up till 170k miles when I traded it in. My '12 truck is on it's third windshield at 148k miles and I just think Ford installs a cheaper windshield these days.
Search for broken windshield and you will see this is common since 2015. The windshields are junk, lots of broken windshields and wavy windshields. This didn't happen until Ford switched to cheap Guardian windshields. The rest of the cab glass is PGW. Gone are the days of Carlite glass.
my windshield has DOT# 22 which is guardian, rest of the truck is DOT 904 which is PGW.
Ford is not the only one, My work car has a cracked windshield for no reason at all? It is one of the Chevy Malibu's. Nothing ever hit it that I know of and I am the only one that drives it and it sits in my driveway every day.
