If you don't pull the radiator be careful of that nipple on the drivers side upper radiator. It will break off. (Ask me how I know) Rusty Axlerod was with me at the time and showed me how to repair it. (Thank you Rusty)
I'm interested in what you find. I have the STC on a summertime list myself. And I think one of my oil leaks may be around the cover as well.
Did you have any STC failure warnings? Hot starts, high IPR, etc?

Do you think the oil leak was a warning, before the explosive event? I'm asking as I've never seen a warning such as a mass leak before a failure.
Jack, I believe that the VERY sparse intermittent hot/cold no starts was a sign.
As far as the oil, I would say possibly yes. Before the fix, I would get about thre to four oil drops on the ground when parking it at home, and at work after driving.
Now I am only getting one little drop, but ONLY after I park at work after driving, not at home. Weird.....
