Oil all over

Well, I was experiencing an intermittent long/no start every once in a blue moon, I think it maybe because this oil issue is getting worse.

I came back from lunch at work, and when pulling into my spot I noticed some oil drips on the ground.

Looked underneath, and here is what I found on the passenger side:

This issue with oil being in this area is not new, it has always been there since I owned the truck. It just getting progressively worse now.

Then I have been having an issue for about a month or so, trying to find out where all this spatter is coming from as well:

I am wondering if its all related to this oil leaking?

Also, where do you all think I should start at to find this leak?

The oil dipstick is only down a tad.

Researching the problem doesn't really help, as it can be sooo many different things.

I am thinking about pressure washing under the truck, where the oil is. Hoping that cleaning it, will show a better idea of where it is coming from. But I am pretty doubtful on it showing me anything new.

Maybe its the valve cover gasket?

Maybe I should start disassembling the passenger side of the engine bay and see what I find?

Assume you have inspected topside and found not much? Flashlight and mirror - I'd start at the top...

I used this when Dealer wasn't finding my leak(s):

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...att66f100.html

I had burning oil smell and drip at bottom of bell housing. Finally switched to a larger dealer: they found CAC leaks, but main issue (burning smell) was passenger side valve cover at rear -- never could see that one. Larger leak was bedplate seal - fortunately done under warranty. Previous dealer had replaced main seal (they were just throwing parts at it)...

Good luck, Preston,
Scott

Assumption is correct. Nothing much to report on the top. But I am going to whip out the flashlight and mirror for sure.

Well, after having my "Mind Blown" from that thread I will at least have some starting points. Thank you for the reference Scott, I saved that to my favorites folder for future use this weekend. If I have time.

I can't help much yet but following. I have a fair amount of oil on my starter. It's coming from above but doesn't appear to be above exhaust manifolds. Not glow plugs. I may chase a bit more while front tire off.
I do have oil in the valley from somewhere so I need to get that addressed first anyway. I still think something on passenger side is leaking.

That is how mine started out. Oil on the starter and part of the tranny. But now it is too this point.

I would dare bet that spatter is the same leak Preston. Those drips catch the wind and end up on the driveshaft, and go wherever they feel like it at that point depending on where they end up on the driveshaft or elsewhere.

I was thinking it was, but then I thought I "gee whiz thats alot of oil everywhere"....

Good point on the wind thought. I forget how much it can throw liquid around.

Same results of an issue here. I know some is coming from the CAC boot on the turbo because it's always got a drip and when I douched it the oil came right back directly below the boot. But I think some is also coming from the filter adapter on top of the cooler cover.
I've been collecting parts and getting close to doing an oil cooler anyways. In 3500 miles it shows about a quart low on the stick so it just looks worse than it is.
I've just been considering it as rust prevention.

Story ...

When I met my wife about 40 years ago she had her original owner '66 Mustang, a daily driver car. I had a '65 fastback at the time. Hers had the god awful power steering where the hydraulic cylinder and control valve was in the linkage. I had that too on my first car, a '65 convertible and they always leaked. I pulled mine off after the third attempted at trying to fix the issue.

Anyway, it was like that on her car all the years she owned it, a small leak. For a Jersey car there was hardly any rust underneight the car, while most are all rotted out.

Photo Update-

I am not able to get to taring into things today, as my oldest Son is taking the truck to prom.

But I was able to take my phone and snap some photo's at the top of the transmission. I crammed my hand between the passenger side transmission bell and chassis to get these photo's.

Please be understanding, as I couldn't not see what I taking pictures of:

More photos coming........................
