I may have a different truck in my near future. I know that for the truck I want to keep "forever", I want a CrewCab.
Around here, the Crew Cab's are pretty rare, especially one that is drivable, so I was considering broadening my search to include a Super Cab. If I get a Super Cab, I will still keep an eye out for a Crew.
How tight is the space in the rear seat? I have a family of 5 at the house at all times and 6 when my oldest comes to visit. I don't want to get something that is uncomfortable, but heck, they're kids...
Believe it or not, I have never sat in a Super Cab or a Crew Cab Dent yet
the worst part about a supercab is getting back there and the seat sits kinda low, wasn't terrible as a kid but when the teenage years hit & I closed in on 6ft tall it got uncomfortable back there
I have a SC and it is fine for little kids but not anyone over 5'. You will have to add shoulder belts back there, I'm in the process of that now, sourced from a 93.
If you were only going to have occasional need for a few additional people riding in your truck, then I would say go ahead with a SuperCab, but with the size of your family, I'd most certainly wait for a Crew Cab. Start saving and searching.
Thanks for the input guys. This would be my daily driver (when I'm home) and only need to be for full family dory the times we need to use the truck and carry the family.
My wife drives a 2012 1500 Suburban with more than enough seating for the family.
I guess the only real way to tell is find one and go for a test drive.
SC should have a split folder front bench like a Bronco. But still a PITA to get in and out of, try putting a car seat for a little kid or a bunch of grocery bags Super PITA.
Room for little kids yea, but they will grow out of it soon enough. Waist belts for 3 only.
Some SC have 2 side setting fold down jump seats, then only 2 waist belts, and NO seat in the middle.
X2 on over 5" tall no leg room, notice they only show a short kid and a Dog and the dog is across the seat, ever wonder why? Because he is a big dog and he does not have any room.
I have never sat in the back seat of a Dent Supercab or CC.......but I do know that my former '92 and 2000 Supercabs were tight back there........I'm 6'1 and if I had to ride with another person back there........so I couldn't stretch out my legs.......it was NOT comfortable..........even my kids started complaining about the time they hit 10 or 12 years old...........I like a SC for the extra space to throw groceries or a suitcase in.....but as far as comfort in the back seat........they aren't........
I did the car seat in the SuperCab back seat for a few trips but as soon as the kid was big enough for booster seats, I moved it up front as it's a pain to get it set up in the back. I originally bought the SuperCab as I don't like my head up against the back glass and for that, it's perfect. For daily passenger use, it's not so perfect...
Well, there is a crew cab up for sale about an hours drive from my place. Unfortunately, I think it is going to be more of a "project" than I want, or currently have space for.
If the guy still gas it when I get home later this week, I am going to go take a look at it. It is not drivable, so I will have to find a way to get it home if I can talk the wife into another project...
