I have a 96 F350 that is giving me some electrical trouble. While driving down the road a few accessories go out simultaneously, and then a few minutes later or a few hours later they start working again.... which might last a few minutes or a few hours. The radio, windows, and a/c all stop working at the same time. I am leaning towards it being an ignition switch.... any ideas? I have had several of this bodystyle, but nothing like this gas ever happened. If it were a 2002 model I would assume it's a gem module, but that didn't exist yet in 1996. All suggestions welcome....
Why I say the Ignition Switch:
AS you can see in diagram 13-22 below the Radio is powered by fuse 11, the windows by CB 14 and the AC by fuse 6. These all have a common power source.
Looking at diagram 13-3 below the common source for this power is the Ignition Switch.
Note that fuse 17 in the engine fuse/relay box powers this output from the Ignition switch but fuse 17 also powers the Ignition system and you said nothing about the truck cutting out.
No the truck never cuts out when running. It is incredibly hard to start if it has set more than a couple days, but I think that is a different issue. Would you suggest I pick up a key and tumbler too? Just picked up the electrical switch
